I delivered the books to Sheriff Trowbridge at the Madison County
Sheriff's Department yesterday and he was very excited and thankful for
the books. He told me that he had 54 deputies and he would get the
books in the hands of everyone that wanted a copy. He told me before
that he felt like he had some deputies that needed to find God so
maybe this can help. I just want to say thanks again for allowing this
to happen.

"If more Christians had a zeal for the lost and a passion for God that
Tony possesses, we would have revival. I not only admire him as a man of
God, but I am honored to call him a friend. His helpful book will
encourage many to "take up the shield of faith." ~ Ray Comfort, Co-Host
of Way of the Master Radio and author of The Way of The
Master and How To Bring Your Children To Christ & Keep
Them There
I read Take Up the Shield
in one sitting. It's solid biblically, has great personal stories, and is a
must-read for anyone in law enforcement or for people who want to understand
that they also put on a 'uniform' every day." ~
Bill Fay, author of Share Jesus Without
Fear
Tony Miano is active as a reserve Deputy with the Los
Angeles County Sheriff's Department who also serves as Chaplain. Offering the
insight of his eighteen years of law enforcement experience and involvement in
scenarios like the Riverside earthquake and Los Angeles Riots, Deputy Miano's
words are steeped in authenticity. Seldom do we encounter soldiers who don all
aspects of the armor of God as it is relayed in Ephesians. However Deputy
Miano details the armor and its relevance to peace officers and Christians
today.
Relaying the stories of fallen officers, the tactical
perspective of approaching suspects, and the necessity of sharing the Gospel
with those who will stand before the True Judge, Miano challenges believers
everywhere to wear the whole armor of God. In a scripturally sound
presentation he encourages believers to be ready in season and out, to
practice using the weapons of our warfare, and to stand strong in faith in
Christ Jesus.
As the daughter of a retired deputy sheriff, I know Deputy
Miano's words will inspire my dad to take up his armor although he no longer
patrols the streets. This encouraging word is for those who are in and outside
of the law enforcement family--as peace officers, soldiers, and all who
protect our freedom and liberty face the enemy on a regular basis and need our
prayers for protection and strength. I highly recommend this book to all
within law enforcement or military families as it is relevant to today's
defenders of freedom. – Suzanne, Christian Book Previews.com
I
greatly enjoyed "Take Up The Shield." It really drives home some points I've
felt strongly about for a number of years. In the past when I shared with
other officers, I normally took them to Eph. 6 to show how the Lord has spoken
through Paul's writing of how we need to prepare ourselves for our daily
battles. It will be a pleasure to share this book with others. I pray it will
continue to touch hearts for Christ, and help those who know him but haven't
been looking to him in their lives. ~ John Underwood - Oklahoma
"I just received 'Take Up The
Shield" Thank you. I have already read 2/3 of the book. I am excited about
being able to give this book to my officers. Thank you again." ~ Janet
McFarland - Missouri
"I finished reading 'Take Up
The Shield' . . . [I want to] thank you and praise the quality of the whole
statement. I think all military as well as peace officers would benefit
from its insights . . . I'm loaning my copy to several officers in my church
now. I think they will see its great value." ~ James - California
(a retired soldier and father of a deputy sheriff killed in the line of
duty)
"We know a young couple from our church whose husband [is
in law enforcement]. . .He's a neat young man and I know the Lord will
direct his paths. I really want him to see the spiritual side of this job,
too. That's why I thought 'Take Up The Shield' would be perfect for
him. Thank you for all you do--and for doing it for the Lord." ~
Roberta - Pennsylvania
"Please send me another ten copies of 'Take Up The
Shield.' Great book, [and a] good read! I hope you will let me put a
plug in for the second printing! I have a number of [officers] that I
want to give it to. Thanks." ~ Howard, a D.A. Investigator in
California
"It was a pleasure to meet you (Chaplain Tony) . .
. As promised, I went home and promptly buried myself in 'Take Up The
Shield' . . . All can say is......WOW! You have written an eloquent,
'take no prisoners' comparison of all the accouterments of a police
officer with the armor described by Paul in Ephesians. It certainly has
been a blessing in my walk with the Lord, giving me much food for
thought. I am even more convinced that police chaplains are indeed the
unsung heroes of our profession." ~ Dee, a Police Chief in
Pennsylvania
"I received 'Take
Up The Shield' and cannot thank you enough! Your book was absolutely
a blessing! I read it at once and found that it was extremely
emotional! I giggled and cried. I found that the book spoke to me
even though I am not a peace officer or a Chaplain." ~ Eileen -
California
"I’ve been in law
enforcement for about 3 years now. Personally, i feel there aren't
enough books/materials on law enforcement and Christianity, and the
struggles we as Christian officers deal with. I bought 'Take Up The
Shield' . . . and look forward to reading it . . . I've already told
my fellow deputies about your book." ~ Quinton, a deputy
sheriff in Florida
After speaking to you the other day, I felt compelled to
reread your book. I must say that you have a way of being both simple and
eloquent at the same time. I especially liked the parallels you make between
our equipment and the everyday [spiritual equipment we need]. Somehow I
couldn't imagine that you could have felt so many of the same issues and
struggles that I have had. I feel that "Take Up The Shield" should be read by
anyone who does this kind of work and needs some encouragement. Thanks for all
that you do. ~ Mike, a deputy sheriff in California
On Tuesday we had a hard day. Our neighbor decided to end
her life. I know God is always faithful, even in the hardest
times. A Detective and three deputy sheriffs were at the scene. I figured it
was time to turn something tragic into something that would have an eternally
pleasing fragrance to our Lord. I remembered that I had your first book,
"Running Beyond Inspiration," in my car. I gave a copy to each of
the three deputies and thanked them for their time. I told them that I knew
they needed some encouragement since they deal with these kind of incidents on
a daily basis. They thanked us for our concerns. When they left,
the detective was still in our home, but I had no more books to give to him.
We talked for about an hour with him about many things.
I showed him the
Ten-Four Ministries website. The detective pointed to your book, "Take
Up the Shield", and said, "That looks interesting. We need guys like this
Tony out there doing what he does." As I thought about your book, I
realized that the detective needed my copy more than I did! So we gave him
our signed copy. He was very thankful for the book. He said, "I will start
reading it right a way!"
God took a very hard day and transformed it into something
pleasing to Him. He allowed us, through your book, to minister to these fine
men and women serving our great country. I don't know what will
happen from this, but God does! I pray they go to your web site and read more
about our God and your faithful ministry! God bless you Tony as you
share with so many of these fine officers! And if any officers read this
too...we THANK-YOU TOO!!
Take care and God Bless!!
Mike and Nora -- California
WOW!! Well done!!
I read this book last night and was just going to read a
chapter, but before I knew it, an hour and a half was gone! I couldn't put
it down. This book is incredible. It should be in the hands
of every person who has a hard time grasping the concept of faith. The
analogy and comparison is something that a person can really relate to. I’m
sorry that I didn’t read it long ago; I think it would’ve helped me to
understand some things. I'm so thankful to Tony for putting all of it on
paper and in black and white. God has certainly blessed him. I will be going
into street ministry with my church and will be able to use the things that
I read in this book. I'm grateful for the inspiration and understanding. ~
Amy Carinder - Oklahoma
I was allowed to present two LAPD officers with 'Take Up The Shield.' I have seven copies left and I'm
looking forward to talking to more officers and giving them the book. My hope
is that the Lord would allow me to give one to Chief Bratton. I'm praying
that He would set it up." ~ Jerry - California

Written by a street cop, this unique
publication compares the various pieces of law enforcement equipment to the
spiritual armor that the Bible describes in Ephesians chapter 6. Real-life law
enforcement stories drive home the importance of each piece of equipment.
Although much has been written about this
well known passage of Scripture, little has been written from the perspective of
a Christian who wears and uses the physical armor of the police officer every
day, fighting both the physical battle against crime in our society and the
spiritual battle against evil that all individuals are called to fight.
You don't have to be a cop or a Christian to
be encouraged and challenged by this book. In addition to building your faith,
this book will serve as a helpful introduction to the men and women who protect
you and your community. |
